The Ultimate Guide on How to Groom Your Eyebrows

Remember, they’re sisters – not twins!

Technically speaking eyebrows serve no actual function on our face – it’s purely aesthetic. So why aren’t we all playing up the aesthetics by making sure our brows are on fleek?

I did the work for you and combed through countless beauty guru videos – Laura Lee, Nikki Tutorials, James Charles – all over the internet to make this step-by-step tutorial for you. Keep on reading for the ultimate guide for grooming your eyebrows to make sure they’re sculpted and flawless. Of course, these are general guidelines to follow, and adding your own personal touches to your makeup routine are what will make your brows yours!

1. Figure out the shape of your brows

There are many different possibilities when it comes to shaping your eyebrows. The general idea is to take a look at your natural eyebrows and see what it originally shapes into. Use this simple chart on the above to see what the most common eyebrow shapes are.

2. Tweeze outside the lines

Now comes the shaping. There are many other options for shaping your eyebrows like threading or waxing, but I like to do my own eyebrows myself so that I can 1) save money, and 2) have the freedom to do what I want with them! Take a look at the hairs sitting outside the shape and tweeze them. Be sure to take a step back from the mirror and look at the bigger picture once in a while so you don’t over-do the tweezing — that’s something that takes a while to recover from.

3. Get an eyebrow wax to tame your hairs

Eyebrow hairs can sometimes get a little out of control. If that’s the case for you, invest in an eyebrow wax or pomade. This L.A. Girl Brow Pomade is a great option that slides effortlessly onto your brows and locks them in place for the rest of the day. It is a tinted wax so for those of you that need a little more help with filling in extra space in your brows, this is a great option for creating more colour and dimension. See here for a tutorial on how to use a brow pomade.

4. Fill them in!

Next, take the
L.A. Girl Cosmetics Slim Shady Brown Pencil and begin to fill in your eyebrows using short and quick strokes in an upwards direction. Make sure to start with more pressure on the outer ends of your brows, and slowly ease up as you reach the middle so that a smooth gradient begins to form. The point of these quick hand strokes is so that it’ll mimic actual eyebrow hairs and create a natural/realistic look instead of a blocked out eyebrow. This brow pencil does wonders precisely drawing hair-like strokes.

5. Gel them in place

To keep your eyebrow hairs in place use an eyebrow gel. I like to think of gels as sort of a mascara for your eyebrows. They add a little more volume to your hairs and help them to stay in place with a little more shape and structure. This Rimmel London Brow This Way Eyebrow Gel a great drugstore option that helps to groom and define your final brow-look!

6. Contour the surroundings

This step is what separates an everyday look, from an everyslay look. (haha…) Do you ever see Instagram makeup gurus highlight or concealer above and below their brow bones? Sometimes it can seem a little intimidating to do, but with the e.l.f. Cosmetics Studio Eyebrow Lifter & Filler you can achieve this clean-looking, defined brows.! This product comes is made with a double-sided end to fill in gaps and to highlight the shape of the brow. After your brows and all filled and drawn in, use the lighter shade of the pencil outline all around your brows as a concealer to clean up excess mini hairs and sharpen the look of brows.
